Stepping UP(2)
Today was the first full day with my new fitness tracker. I had one a couple years ago, but it stopped working. I really liked it, because it helped me stay aware of how active I was or how idle. I am hoping to have the same experience with this one. It's the same brand: Jawbone. This time I got the UP2. It looks kind of like a bracelet. This is the one I got.
Day12. I am thankful for my fitness tracker to help me stay active and healthy.
Let's start with when my steps started being counted today. That was at 3:32am, when I found out that my favorite 3 year old wet the bed. So there was lots of activity changing her clothes and getting her and her sister settled elsewhere. Then I stumbled back to bed.
By the way, last night I set my UP2 alarm, which is supposed to gently wake you up by vibrating when your sleep cycle is at a good time for waking up, and is close to when you want to wake up. Not sure if that made sense. It's worked for me in the past, but this morning, not so much. I turned my regular alarm off, and ignored the vibrating at my wrist. I woke up at 6:46. This kids have to be at school at 7:35, and we need to be pulling out of the driveway by 7:20.
When I realized how late it was, I was totally focused and determined to get us out the door on time. The older two got dressed, ate toast for breakfast, and otherwise took care of themselves with some encouraging. I took care of the younger two, but that did include breakfast or changing out of pajamas. They stay in the car anyway, and there just wasn't time for eating right then. I was pretty proud of myself for having everyone in the van and buckled up before 7:20. So we head to school.
And then, about five minutes into our drive to school, it dawned on me that I didn't see Josie's backpack. Even after reminding her to grab it, she had forgotten it at home. And it turned out that Deuce had forgotten his too! Ack! All that rushing to be on time, and it didn't matter, because going back to get the backpacks would make the kids late. Thankfully they weren't tardy. They did get screen time revoked today, though.
I spent some time cleaning up the house and doing a little laundry. I also did some Bible study in 1 Peter 3. I've been digging in deep, so I don't get through many verses at a time. The girls had a late snack/early lunch, and then it was naptime. Oh yeah, and realizing that the meat I'd pulled out to thaw for meatloaf wasn't fully thawed, I had to come up with another idea for dinner. So I threw some stuff together in a kitchen experiment. More on that later.
While the girls napped, I exercised. I've decided to put all of our stairs to good use. We have 48 steps from the basement to our third floor bedroom. Starting at the top, I did 10 lunges, then walked all the way down the stairs, doing a circle around our dining room table first. When I got to the end of the basement, I did a variety of dumbbell exercises (bicep curls, dumbbell rows, shoulder presses) before heading back up to the third floor. If I remember correctly, I did 10 rounds, and when I got upstairs I had one minute left on my 25 minute timer. So I held a plank for a minute. It wasn't a super intense workout, but I was constantly moving, and my heart rate was up. And I walked a little over a mile in that time. So I call that a successful workout.
After we picked up Josie and Deuce from school, we went to the Browns' house for a play date. We got there right around 3, and left shortly before 5. It was great to see how Jeremy and Raven have improved the house since moving in last month. The last time we were there, there was dirt and debris everywhere from demolition and remodeling. Plus there was no furniture, so it didn't exactly look like a home yet. But their vision is definitely coming to life! It was so nice to sit and chat with Raven, as always. The time went too fast. We talked a lot about food and recipes, but also spiritual things. Meanwhile, the kids all played together.
And speaking of food, I mentioned that I experimented in the kitchen today. Knowing that we were going to be gone this afternoon, I wanted to have dinner prepared before we left to get the kids from school. When I saw that meatloaf wouldn't be possible this afternoon, I decided to come up with something I could make with browned beef. I ended up making Mexican lasagna with some stuff thrown together from the pantry, fridge and freezer. And you know what? It turned out okay! I mean, I'm sure it wasn't up to Jon Schult'z standards, but the kids and husband liked it for the most part! I might even make it again with some tweaks!
Overall, I'm happy about today. I didn't reach my goal of 12,000 steps, but I did hit 10,000, which is pretty good. And I'm tired.
