It's True... Aldi is Awesome
I went to bed last night at like 9:15, and obviously didn't blog before crashing, so this morning I will get yesterday's gratefulness post, and do today's later.
Day 4.
In years past, I wasn't a huge fan of Aldi. The fact that I didn't couldn't do all of my shopping in one store annoyed me. Plus, I'm picky about certain ingredients, and I had a hard time finding foods that didn't have ingredients like HFCS or hydrogenated oils, for examples.
However, this year I decided to give Aldi another chance, and I am so glad that I did! They have definitely made some changes, offering a lot more quality foods that are organic or more natural. I can buy almost all of the groceries I need there, for way less than at any other store! The one thing that I've not been able to find there is thick cut pork chops. Otherwise, I really can't think of anything that we eat on a regular basis that I can't buy there.
Also, Aldi is so much smaller, so it takes a lot less time to get through the store. Although, if you go at busy times, the smallness makes it more crowded. It really is nice having fewer choices of each thing. At Walmart, there are probably half a dozen (maybe more?) different brands of ketchup that you have to choose from. At Aldi, you can get the regular ketchup or the organic ketchup. That's about it. It just makes shopping so much easier.
I like that the carts all get put back in front of the store, and they get people to do that by making them pay $.25 to use one. The quarter is returned when the cart is put back. The other week the kids were playing with the change that I had in the van, and one of them lost my Aldi quarter. I was not a happy mom. *Beast mode* "Where is my quarter?!?!" lol Thank goodness, for my kids' sake, I found another one. Oh, and the double seat cart is awesome. I can put Margo and Piper in the seats, which is helpful.
So anyway, the main reason I thought to write about Aldi is because I got an amazing deal on grass fed beef. Now, even though I'm picky about certain ingredients, I don't usually go out of my way to buy grass fed beef or organic meat at all. But, when I was looking in the meat section for some ground beef, I couldn't believe it when I saw the price on the grass fed! Normally, I buy 90/10 ground beef for $4.49 a pound. Regular priced grass fed beef is $6.99 a pound. So, when I saw it advertised for $1.99 a pound, I grabbed seven one-pound packages. And then I had to verify that A) the price is correct and B) the meat isn't about to spoil. The answers were yes and no, respectively.
$1.99 a pound!
Seriously, why do people shop anywhere else?! I mean, Pick n Save? Piggly Wiggly? Sendik's? Whole Foods?! You're all getting robbed! lol
