Splendid Saturday

Day 2. Today I am thankful for low-key family days like the one we had today!

I didn't feel like cooking or making any dishes, so I sent Justin to Grebe's to get some yummy donuts, and we ate them on paper plates. Not a bad way to start the day, as far as I'm concerned. By the way, I'm getting back on the healthy eating track on Monday, in case anyone was wondering. lol

After breakfast, Deuce and I played a couple games: Mancala and a partial game of Othello. (He also played checkers with Justin.) My parents got Mancala for Josie for Christmas, but Deuce has taken more of a liking to it. Another game we really like to play together is called Scrambled States of America. It's fun, and helps kids learn geography.  Overall, he likes games better than his older sister. I've always liked games too, so it's nice to have someone to play them with!

Later, while Margo and Piper took their naps I played Duolingo, a foreign language learning app with Deuce and Josie. I've enjoyed refreshing my Spanish knowledge, and the kids have shown interest in learning Spanish. Living in our neighborhood, where like two-thirds of the residents are Hispanic, being able to speak Spanish would be a helpful skill. Anyway, I started getting really sleepy, so I ended up letting them each get a turn playing the app while I took a snooze on the couch. I don't often take mid day naps, so that was really nice.

Tonight for dinner I tried a new method of making shredded chicken for tacos. Normally, I'd use the crockpot, but I didn't get to it soon enough, so I made it on the stove. After I cooked the chicken breasts in broth and seasonings, I took the lazy way out, and put the chicken in a food processor to shred, perhaps a little too successfully. I was pretty pleased with the results, and the kids seemed to like their tacos for the most part.

After dinner, Deuce and I (It seems like I did a lot with Deuce today!) played with his new Keva planks. Well, to clarify, Deuce chose what he wanted to build, fished out the correct planks, and I built it. His choice was to build a tractor, and here's the finished product.

A bit later, Justin and worked together to get the kids to bed. I got the kids showered/bathed and dressed in PJs, while Justin brushed teeth, clipped nails, and facilitated room clean up. Then I tucked the kiddos into bed, and headed downstairs to hang out with Justin. We've recently started watching Making a Murder (like the rest of the country, apparently), which we both are enjoying. Justin loves the show The First 48, so I knew he'd like this one.

Overall, nothing super amazing happened today, other than just spending quality time with the kids and Justin, but then again, maybe I did have a super amazing day. ;0)
