Chili and Wings and Other Things

Today, when I should've been cleaning up the house for guests (more on that later), I was taking down Christmas decorations and organizing. It didn't take too long, which was nice, but the house definitely looks emptier. When Deuce got home and saw that the tree was down, he was so sad. He told me that he wanted to keep it up for his birthday (in February). Sorry Bud.

Speaking of Deuce, we had some interesting conversations today. This morning he noticed a couple of mouse traps in the pantry, and wondered why we wanted to trap mice. I believe that honesty is always the best policy, so I told him that we don't want to trap the mice; we want to kill them. I knew that he was feeling bad for the mice, so I told him that mice don't have feelings. But then on the way to school, I felt the need to explain myself a little more. I don't want my kid thinking he can just kill animals willy nilly. So I explained that sometimes it's okay to kill animals, and sometimes it isn't.

On the way home from school, Deuce was all concerned about Daddy getting old. He wanted to know "when I'm 40, will Daddy be old?" "Yes." "I don't want Daddy to be old!" "Well, that's just the way it is." "When Daddy is in a nursing home.." "Let's just enjoy life right now." "Okay... When Daddy is in a home, will he still have his birthday on February 25?" lol This kid!

So, when we got home in the afternoon, I quickly tidied up the house as well as I could, cleaned two of the bathrooms, vacuumed... And then browned some beef for spaghetti for the kids and more for chili. This evening, Mo and Jon and their girls, Kennedy and Presley came over. Well, Jon and Justin went out to BW3's for a little man-date, while Mo and I stayed home and made paleo chili. It's the recipe I've made (and love) several times called Bomb Chili. Mo also made some paleo muffins to go with the chili.

We fed the kids first, so when the chili was ready, we were able to sit and eat it in peace. After dinner, Mo made me clean up the kitchen. Haha okay, she did most of the clean up. I also taught her and Kennedy how to play mancala. When we finished our game, Deuce and Kennedy played.

Oh yeah, and Mo took some photos of Margo and Piper. I've been meaning to get some shots of them that I can blow up to 5x7 to put in a frame with the older kids' school pictures. Unfortunately, Mo forgot her good camera, and used Kennedy's instead. The pictures definitely weren't as good as they normally are, due to the camera and the lighting. Piper's pictures turned out pretty cute, but Margo didn't have one great one. Haha we might have to try again another day! Eventually I'll get some current photos of my kids up on the walls!

Justin and Jon stopped at Leon's to get some frozen custard for everyone. We sat around and chatted for a bit longer eating our treats until they had to go. It's always so nice to get together with Jon and Mo and the girls. It's just too bad that it doesn't happen enough. They're such good friends. 80)

Day 8. I am grateful for Mo and Jon and their friendship. 80)
