Monday... Tuesday... Wednesday... Thursday
I keep telling myself to blog everyday, and then I don't follow through. But at least I'm a lot more consistent than I used to be. I've really enjoyed thinking about and keeping track of what makes me grateful each day. It's made me appreciate my life a little more. And it will be nice to go back and remind myself about the little moments that made a big difference.
Anyway, today is a quadruple post.
Monday. Day 25. Justin and I started a journey toward better health, and I am grateful to have him as my weight losing/ health gaining partner.
I am using the MyFitnessPal app to track my food intake, as well logging workouts to estimate how many calories I burn. I'm also using my Jawbone UP2 app, which is synced to my fitness band, to track my daily steps. It calculates my resting and active calories burned too.
Justin is totally on board with reducing his calories and eating healthier, but he doesn't seem as interested in logging all of his food. He's got enough to do at work, so I'm helping him out by packing his lunch (which I do anyway) and making sure that what he eats stays within his calorie limits. He doesn't have a fitness tracker, but the iPhone tracks steps as long as he has his phone on him.
I really want this to be more about our health, and not much about my appearance. My goal is to lose 35-40 lbs and get within the normal BMI range for my height. Justin's goal is to get down to 200. That would be a 70+ lb weight loss! We'll see if we can do it... and then keep it off!
Tuesday. Day 26. Justin and I had our first Spanish Conversation class through the Milwaukee Recreation Department. It was great!
There is a wide range of ages and backgrounds, but only three guys and maybe a dozen women. The instructor is from Nicaragua, but he's lived in Milwaukee for many years. The class is really different than any other I've been in, because it's based on conversation more than grammar. Everything is review for me so far, but I think it's going to be fun taking the class with Justin, and seeing his Spanish improve.
Wednesday. Day 27. I'm thankful for, what I'm calling, dinner redo!
I had wanted to pick one night a week to be new recipe and dessert night, and I decided on Tuesday. In retrospect, that wasn't a great night since we have Spanish class at 6. Anyway, I found a new turkey meatloaf recipe and homemade cheesy scalloped potato one. Unfortunately, I didn't get the potatoes done before we had to rush out the door, so I put the dish in the oven to revisit.
Well, I had another pound of ground turkey in the fridge, so I just decided to make the exact same meatloaf recipe again, just smaller for dinner on Wednesday. And since meatloaf (in all its many varieties) is a family favorite, there was no complaining.
I think I'm going to have to move new recipe/dessert night to Wednesday since Tuesday is rushed enough as it is.
Thursday. Day 28. I am thankful for hopscotch, which Margo asks me to play every single day.
I don't always want to, but I know it takes maybe five minutes to do, so I make her happy and play at least once a day. We keep the foam pieces interlocked and set up in the living room, so a hopscotch game could go down at any time. And sometimes she's fine playing by herself. Piper tries to play too, but she can't quite hop yet. It is cute watching her attempt to though.
Okay, there you have it. Four days worth of gratefulness.
