A Night Out With the Kiddos
The third Thursday of every month is supposed to be my MOBs meeting. MOBS stands for "Mothers of Blessings." We get together to enjoy a potluck meal and great conversation, without our children. This year we are going through a book by Nancy Leigh DeMoss called "Lies Women Believe, and the Truth That Sets Them Free." I look forward to it every month.
Unfortunately, I forgot about the meeting when I gave Justin the go-ahead to spend the evening with one of his friends. Sure, I could've have requested that he cancel his plans, and he probably would have, but it was my fault for the mixup. I tried to get a sitter, but I was unsuccessful.
So instead I decided to make the most of the evening with the kids. I took them all out to eat downtown at AJ Bombers. We got there around 5:20 or so, and avoided the dinner rush, but still had to park around the block and pay $8. Oh well! I picked AJ Bombers, because it was voted as one of the most kid friendly restaurants in Milwaukee.
We were seated at a booth with chalkboards on the walls behind the benches. The kids all enjoyed coloring with the chalk, although the chalk didn't work very well for some reason. Another fun thing at the restaurant is that they "bomb" peanuts on your table. Well, more specifically, they noisily get dropped into a bowl on the table. As expected, the kids ate (more than) their fair share of peanuts. Everyone (except Piper) ate a really good dinner, so we had frozen custard for dessert.
On the way back to the van, we walked by a couple men taking a smoke break, and one of them politely said, "Good evening." And when he saw that I had four young children with me, he said, "God bless you! You have your hands full!" I just said, "Thanks, yep. Just a little!" That's a phrase that I hear a lot, that doesn't offend me like it does others. Yes my hands are full. But so is my heart.
When we got home, it was close enough to bedtime that I had everyone get their pajamas on, I put Piper to bed, and the other kids all zonked out on the couches. I went up to bed to read a little bit of my Spanish book, and fell asleep before 9:30. I ended up waking up around 3:30, and was wide awake. I stayed up, watching a show on my phone until 5ish, and then went back to sleep until 8.
Day 21. I had a great evening WITH my kids, even though it was supposed to be an evening WITHOUT them. Sometimes, you just have to make the most of it.
