Valentine's Day Dinner - A Day Early

Day 44. I'm grateful for a great night out with Justin and my in-laws.

This morning, Justin dropped me off at Ellie's nail salon for a much needed pedicure and manicure, while he took the kids to swim lessons. Mo and I had an appointment at 10:30. It's always better to get pampered with friends! The plan was that she would drop me off at Bay View High School where the kids have their swim lessons so I could help Justin get them get out of their suits and into their clothes and all that. Unfortunately, the guy who did Mo's nails was a bit of a slow poke, and I didn't get dropped off until well after the classes were over. I got accused of being a blister (shows up after all the work is done haha) by Matt Thundercloud. I'm glad that Justin wasn't annoyed that he had to handle it all himself.

We went home and had lunch, got the girls down for their naps, and otherwise had a pretty lazy afternoon. I should have done more cleaning, but oh well! I don't think the babysitter minded.

It took me quite a while to figure out what I was going to wear out to dinner for our Valentine's double date. I wanted to wear a dress, but it was freezing cold, and I didn't feel super comfortable in it. So in the end, I picked a cute and comfy pants outfit - skinny jeans, cute shirt, jean jacket and red shoes, and I was so glad that I did. I would've been overdressed compared to Vicki, and I would've been so cold!

Anyway, we went to Mr. B's, a Bartalotta Italian steakhouse. It is Justin's new favorite restaurant, and it's pretty delicious! It's also really expensive! So, don't go unless you plan on shelling out well over $100 for two. For an appetizer, Justin ordered oysters on the half shell, and I finally tried them. The first one I slurped down without chewing, and Justin said, "what's the fun in that?" So I took another one and chewed it up. I am definitely not a fan. They're not necessarily gross, but not something I feel the need to ever eat again. I tried their walnut raisin bread when the bread basket was passed around, which was very tasty. But I didn't want to eat too much, since I had a big dinner coming! I got a bone-in filet with baked garlic breadcrumbs on top and fries on the side. I know it seems counterintuitive to get fries with steak, but they're so good! And of course the steak was amazing. Very tender and flavorful. Add a few spears of broccoli and a glass of Cabernet, and I had a complete meal. Well, I also got a piece of triple chocolate tart, which was so rich and delicious!

Okay enough about the food. The company was really great too! This was the first time that Justin and I have gone out with just his dad and stepmom. The conversation was enjoyable of course, and to make things even better, Alan paid for the meal! At the end of the meal, he said, "Here's the hot set-up. I'll get the bill if you take care of the tip." That ended up being WAY less than we were going to spend, so it was definitely appreciated!

We then said our good-byes and headed home to relieve the babysitter. What a great night!
