Sunday Lunch

Yesterday morning I took the kids to church by myself since Justin was still sick. We have an evangelist in town leading special meetings. We had service twice yesterday and then tonight, tomorrow night and Wednesday night. It's always a really blessed time when he's here preaching.  When the evangelist and his family are in town, usually a group goes out to lunch. And since Justin wasn't feeling well, I knew he'd appreciate a quiet house even longer. After mingling with my friends for a while, I learned where we'd be eating lunch: Benny's CafĂ©. Our pastor seems to be a fan of big, local, 24 hour diners. And there's no complaints from me. I am pretty easy to please.

On the way to the restaurant, which was about 10-15 minutes away, Piper fell asleep. I knew that naptime would be iffy since it was already close to 1:00 at that point, so I'd take whatever snoozing she'd give me. When we got to the restaurant, I set the three older kids at another table with a few other kids from church. Well, two from church and one is the evangelist's son. I had Piper next to me in a highchair. Even though she was a bit squirmy and I had to give her plenty of attention to get her to stay in her seat, I was still able to enjoy conversation with the rest of the table. Well, we were at a long table, so I could really only talk to those close to me. But it was still nice.

I've done well staying on point with my eating all week, so I wanted to make a good choice at the restaurant. I didn't feel like a salad, so I ended up ordering grilled shrimp with broccoli and rice. It was decent. Good flavor, but the shrimp was a bit overcooked.

After lunch, we were trying to figure out how to divide up the checks, and surprisingly, Pastor decided to pay for our lunch! I went completely expecting to pay for our meals, so it was such a blessing for him to take care of the bill!

Day 31. I am thankful for a FREE lunch out with my children and some friends and the good conversation that came with it.
