Not Much Beats Good Conversation
In a day and age when people are constantly distracted by their phones, it's really great to have a conversation with someone face to face. Even when there's a group of people together, it's not uncommon for one person or everyone to be focused on their personal device. And to be clear, I'm just as guilty as anyone, even though I wish I weren't! Well, I got the privilege of spending a significant amount of my day chatting with two different friends at two different times today (yesterday).
This morning, I went to Brookfield to get my hair touched up. I wanted it a little shorter in the back, so Joey (the stylist/friend) took care of that for me. Meanwhile, my friend Laura, who lives about 15 minutes away, watched my three older kids. After my appointment, I went over to her house to hang out for a bit while our kids continued to play together.
We had a great conversation like we always do when we get together. Today we talked about a lot of Biblical/Spiritual related topics, and I felt that it was a really positive and fruitful discussion. I love conversations that aren't on the surface, but dig down deep into the nitty gritty of life.
I don't want to toot my own horn, but I've been told that I'm a great conversationalist. I don't exactly know what that means, but I do appreciate an engaging discussion. I think part of it is that I am pretty open when talking with people. I am not afraid to talk about controversial subjects or express my real feelings on a matter. I like to make people feel comfortable to talk with me too. I don't know if I'm always successful at that, but I want others to know that they can be transparent with me without risk of criticism. I'm also the queen of subject changes, so chats can be very broad in scope with me.
Later this evening, my friend Mo came over to hang out after the kids went to bed. She got here close to 10 and stayed until after 1:30am! Our conversation ranged from health and fitness to family stuff to Biblical principles and more! Mo and I have been super good friends for years, so our chats are always great. There's no need to filter what we say to each other, because we're cool like that. Now that's not to say that we've never offended each other or gotten annoyed with what the other has said. I guess when you're with a good friend, you just enjoy your time together.
I also enjoyed the almost Paleo bars we made (darn sugar in the dried fruit!)!
And now that it's 2:15 in the morning, I should really go to sleep. My husband is hunting this weekend, so it's just the kiddos and me until Sunday night. I was really hoping to get some purging done this weekend, but since I've got a week's worth of laundry to do tomorrow, and we're going to Grandma Marshmallow's (Grandma Vicki) house late afternoon, I'm not sure how much I'll get done. And, that reminds me, Vicki and I always have good chats too!
