A Month's Worth of Reasons
This month I challenged myself to come up with 30 reasons why I loved my husband, and post one each day on Facebook. I successfully completed the challenge, and here are the 30 reasons in no particular order:
1. He always drives. This means that I get to kick back and relax (and possibly nap depending on the distance) whenever we're in the car. Also, he's a very safe and defensive driver.
2. He kisses me every morning before he goes to work, even though I'm usually still asleep. When you consider the potential for morning breath, drool, and ugly sleep face, it's a pretty selfless and sweet gesture. ;0)
3. He's smart AND wise. Justin would have you believe that, because he doesn't have a college degree that he's not as intelligent as the next person, but don't let him fool you. He knows so much about the world due to his experiences, and he'd say that's from making lots of mistakes throughout life. He is a quick learner, and really applies himself when he wants to understand something. I love that I can ask him "What is that? How does it work? Where is ____? What do you think about ___? How much is __ +__? Haha
4. Justin is not one to lavish me with daily compliments. So when he tells me I'm pretty early in the morning, with my hair unbrushed, my face sans makeup and my boobs unholstered, I know he means it. Lol
5. He always makes me feel safe whether we're at home or out and about. I know that he will do whatever is necessary to protect me (and the kids)
6. He's a great storyteller. I love listening to him talk about an experience he had, even if I already heard the same story before. He gets very animated, and has a way of drawing people in when he talks.
It's also fun to listen to him "read" books to the kids. He cracks me up the way he changes words on the fly.
7. He's very affectionate with the kids and me. Hugs, kisses, snuggles and tender gestures abound in this house.
8. He is a dedicated worker. It is very important to Justin that he financially takes care of his family, but he never lets work trump family. He's pushed through some very undesirable work situations (like being on 3rd shift for 3 years). After many (15?) years of consistent hard work and applying himself at the USPS, he's in a higher level position that he really likes.
9. He's really easy to please in the kitchen. He is not a picky eater, and will try anything (he's eaten some bizarre foods too) at least once. Also, he doesn't mind fending for himself on those days I don't feel like cooking.
10. He helps with the kids' personal hygiene. He brushes their teeth everyday, trims their fingernails and toenails when needed, helps with bathing, and sometimes he even does their hair.
11. This might be a little shallow, but I do love all of his tattoos... even the ones you can't see. ;0) ;0)
12. He treats people well. He is kind to servers and tips well, he's polite to salesmen (door to door and telemarketers), and he treated all of his employees (when he was a supervisor) with respect.
He said once to me, "It never hurts to be kind."
13. He is very helpful around the house. He regularly takes out the trash, changes the lightbulbs, moves heavy things, helps with laundry, kills centipedes and other creepy crawlers, just to name a few things. Plus he mows the lawn and shovels/blows the snow whenever it's needed so I never have to.
14. He is very supportive of my parenting choices, including homebirth*, homeschooling, vaccines, food and so on. I love that he trusts my judgment regarding the kids.
15. He is always willing to go to the grocery store to grab whatever we might need on a day to day basis. I do the majority of the shopping, but there are often things that need to be supplemented throughout the week (or I forget), and it's nice to not have to drag the kids to the store multiple times.
16. He is very generous. He doesn't hesitate to help out friends in need, both practically and financially. He gives great gifts too.
17. He knows what he likes/wants and doesn't give a rip what anyone else thinks.
I'll never forget when his uncle told Justin to drink his coffee like a man (black), and he said, "I do. I drink it the way I want to, and I don't care what anyone else thinks about it!" Haha
18. He is honest. He doesn't beat around the bush or mince words when I ask him for his opinion. So when I ask, "does this make my butt look big?" I better be prepared for a truthful answer. Haha
19. Just look at him. Let's be real. He's got it going on.
Brown chicken brown cow!
20. I love his voice. It's just the right tone and timbre. Being from rural Illinois, he doesn't have a typical Wisconsin (donchaknow) accent, but he does have the slightest country twang that I find very endearing.
21. Justin is understanding of my need to socialize, and often watches the kiddos while I go out with the girls. This is especially appreciated once a month when I go to my mom's group for hours on end. 80)
22. He brags about me to his coworkers (or so he says haha).
23. He strives to be careful with his words and his tone during "discussions." He never yells at me. Even when I get angry, he makes every effort to stay calm. When he gets angry, he walks away, so he won't say something he regrets.
24. He forgives me every time I Joe McGeorge (steal) his food, which is often. Lol
25. I love that he's big and strong. He's got a significant amount of lean muscle mass (it's currently hiding haha), which enables him to pick up all sorts of heavy things with ease.
Plus those broad shoulders and thick arms are nice to look at. ;0)
26. He makes me laugh often!
27. Justin is a great conversationalist. We've had countless chats about every topic under the sun (it seems). I love getting his take on current events and other subjects that affect us. We can both be pretty opinionated, but that just makes for interesting and lively conversations.
28. He made the first move. Before I even knew he existed, he was building up the courage to contact me. We seemed to have very little in common, but he took a chance that I wouldn't reject him. I love that he took the chance, because otherwise we wouldn't be where we are today. 80)
29. I love that he irons his own clothes. It's a task I'm terrible at, so I'm glad he is willing to do it himself.
30. I love that he's a Christian who loves God and wants to know Him more. I love that he prays daily and seeks counsel when needed from more seasoned brothers in the faith.
There you have it! My husband is wonderful!
