Making the Most of Summer!! (Part Three)
I'm making the most of screen time right now... But by the time I finish with this post, I'll be caught up for the summer!
Day 181. I'm thankful for a little dress and bonnet my Aunt Carol made for me when I was a wee one.
I don't remember when Mom gave me the dress, but I kept it for years, never doing anything with it. After we moved, the dress went back into storage. That is, until I found it the other week while cleaning out the closets. It was too late for Josie or Margo to wear the dress, but I was pretty sure that it would fit Piper. And it does!
That night at church we had guest worship leaders and their young adult group visit. It was definitely a different vibe since we're used to a really small crowd, but it was still nice. And I made a yummy fruit salad with strawberries from the berry farm, blueberries, grapes and mango. I thought it was delicious.
Day 182. I figured July 1 was a good day to start a new challenge, so no sugar it is!
I always feel better when I cut out sugar from my diet. I don't eat as much processed food, carbs, and desserts. It's usually a good starting point for healthier eating. (full disclosure: I have definitely already failed, but I'll be back on the wagon tomorrow I promise.)
Day 183. What a great day for a birthday party...and strawberry jam.
Matt and Bri had a big combined birthday for their four kids. Their birthdays are in May, July and August, so a combined summer party seemed appropriate. The party was held at Saveland Park. The kids splashed around in the wading pool, played on the playground, explored around the little pond, and ate yummy food. I loved how each of the kids had their own decorated table in their theme of choice along with the dessert they wanted. And of course it was nice to visit with my friends who were there!
That night Josie and I made strawberry jam from a recipe in her Disney cookbook. It was really easy. And I heard, really good. So we will definitely have to make that again.
Day 184. Getting stuff done around the house with a helper is awesome.
Today Justin and I worked hard doing odds and ends around the house and yard today. It's not like the tasks were fun, but somehow they were a lot more enjoyable with company.
Also, look what Piper did. She's so hilarious without even trying!
Day 185. I'm thankful for independence and friends.
For most of the day, Justin and I did more work around the house. I got the pool emptied and the patio and sidewalks cleaned off. It was a lot of work, but I'm really happy with how the backyard looks for now.
I am thankful for the United States of America and all the blessings and freedoms that come from living here. We really are fortunate!
Around 6, the Prices came over for a cookout. We had turkey veggie burgers that had a really good flavor, but not the best texture. I blew my no sugar challenge already, because I put ketchup on my burger and had it on a bun. Oh, and I had a (relatively healthy) Greek yogurt popsicle for dessert.
After dinner we played a game of Bocce ball in our backyard while the kids played inside. David and Angie had never played the game, and I'm embarrassed to say... They beat us at our own game in our own backyard!!
Last year we watched neighborhood fireworks, which were great. This year, not so much. We saw a few here and there, and heard a ton as the night went on. Next year I think we'll have to make a trip to a nearby park to see a good fireworks show. But anyway, I wasn't too upset about missing out. More importantly, everyone had fun.
Day 186. I'm thankful for coffee alfresco and Holly Park pool.
In the morning I had coffee outside, which is something I've never done since we've lived here. It was really nice, and I will definitely do it more often. And eventually we'll get nicer lawn furniture, which will be more inviting.
During the afternoon, the kids and I joined Marie and her two boys (Sully and Campbell) for an afternoon of swimming and playing. We met at their house, and then walked to the Holler Park pool, which happens to be a block and a half from their house. It's a nice and simple pool. There's a shallow end and a deep end, steps in the middle of the shallow end, and ramps on either side. All the kids had a great time together, but I was really happy with how much fun Piper had in the pool. She wasn't scared at all and really enjoyed herself!
After we played in the pool, we went back to Marie's house. She whipped up a little snack, and we sat on their picnic table chatting while the kids played. I'm looking forward to visiting that pool many times over the years!
Day 187. Deuce lost his first tooth!
The most exciting thing that happened on Wednesday occurred late at night. As I'm sure you can tell from the "title" Deuce lost his very first tooth. Both of his bottom front teeth were loose, but one was especially wiggly. I asked him if I could tug it out, and he let me. I loved how happy and excited Deuce was when he realized I'd plucked it out of his mouth. He said, "this is my best day ever!"
Day 188. I'm thankful for a play date with new friends and church at home.
One of Josie's classmates, Leilani, had invited Josie to her birthday party, but we will be in Ohio that weekend. So I arranged a play date with her mom, Lacey. They, along with Leilani's little brother, James, came over around noon and stayed for a couple hours. Lacey and I had a nice conversation over some yummy snacks (For example, I made a really good dip made from vanilla greek yogurt, peanut butter and honey!)
That night, church was held at our house. Angie and I had talked about the idea of having Thursday night service in houses, at least while the group is still small. There were just three couples and two other people. David played the piano and sang a few songs, we had some snacks, and then talked about our perceptions of God. It was a great night as usual.
Day 189. Hooray for swimming again with more friends!
I told you I wanted to go back to Holler Park pool! This time more friends were there too, namely Bri and Ally. Other than that, it was pretty much similar to the last time we came: Fun!
Day 190. Tailgating and a Brewers game with the in-laws was fun!
Today Justin and I went with his dad and stepmom, his sisters and their fiances for some tailgating and a baseball game. It was a lot of fun, even though it was quite warm. We got to Miller Park around 11;30, and immediately set up "camp." After brats, chips and other goodies, some drinks, and a game of washers, it was time to go into the stadium. After we got inside, Justin and I went to one of the stores so I could get a Brewers tshirt. Then we found our seats, which were behind third plate, close to the bottom of the second section up. Unfortunately, it was very sunny and warm. Also, the Brewers lost, which my husband, the traitorous Cardinals fan, loved. All in all it was a really enjoyable day! Here are a few pics:
Now, I'm officially caught up! And ready for bed!
