Making the Most of Summer!! (Part One)
I haven't blogged since before the kids got out of school for summer break! Once again I've got lots of catching up to do. But, we've been making the most of this summer so far! I did my best to remember something that made me grateful or happy each day.
So, here goes...
Day 160. I am grateful for Josie's sense of humor, even when it drives her brother nuts.
Occasionally while driving, Josie will make Deuce go bonkers without saying a word. This time she made a silly, overbite smile, tilted her head and stared, so every time Deuce wanted to look out Josie's window he would see her goofy face. This infuriated him. haha And the best part is that she never broke character. Justin said, "she's my daughter!"
Day 161. I'm thankful for a new swimsuit and the company of a good friend.
But I'm not thankful for the process of swimsuit shopping! Ugh. But at least I finally found a swimsuit that looks reasonably good, and I feel okay in it. By the way, Sarah was the friend that met me at Kohl's to help me pick out a suit. Afterwards, we went to Starbucks for a little coffee treat and a chat.
Day 162. I am grateful for a "Just Grandpa and Me" day that Deuce had.
Deuce and Alan (Grandpa Jones) spent much of the afternoon together at a Brewer's game. I think they both had a great time! Here's a pic from that day;

Day 163. I love baptisms!
It was a typical Sunday: going to church, having lunch... But then later in the afternoon, the kids and I went to Lake Michigan to watch a young lady from our church get baptized. There were just a handful of us (not counting the kids, who were all playing in the sand) who sat around and talked about what it means to be baptized, and prayed together. Then David took Angelina out into the freezing cold Lake Michigan water for the actual full-immersion baptism.
Afterward, the kids and I, along with Angie and her kids, walked up to South Shore Park to play on the playground. Well, Angie and I chatted while the kids played, of course.
Day 164. Hooray it's the last day of school! And the first day of t-ball for Deuce.
MPS did not plan the school year very well to have the last day of school be on a Monday. But, I'm really glad I get a break from having to get up early and take the kids to school five days a week. I'm ready for a fun and full summer!
Deuce started his t-ball league tonight. He'll meet with other 4-6 year old kids on Monday and Wednesday evenings for "games." Basically, every member of each team gets to bat and run around the bases while the other team "fields." It's pretty comical to watch the kids play. I do wish there was more instruction involved, but for the most part, I think they all have fun.
Day 165. The first official day of summer vacation and family pics.
I'm ready to send the kids back to school already! Apparently there's an adjustment for everyone to have all the kids at home. There was lots of bickering and whining going on... (This first day having all the kids at home served as a reminder for why I didn't succeed at homeschooling!)
During the evening, Mo and her lovely assistant (and our friend haha), Bri came over to take our family photos. We started on the front porch and then drove over to Jackson Park, which is about 5 minutes away. As usual, Mo got a ton of great shots of everyone. I love that she has been our family photographer for almost 8 years now! Here's the link to all of the photos if you're interested in looking at them:
Day 166. I'm grateful for a big dining room for dancing.
I spent some time today, while the kids were elsewhere in the house, choreographing and dancing to a couple of different upbeat Christian songs. It was fun, and I will definitely do it again as a way to exercise!
Day 167. Girls' Night Out!
This evening, several ladies from my MOBs (Mommies of Blessings) group went out for dinner. We went to Cafe Centraal in Bay View, which is always tasty. Then we went to Colectivo for an after dinner coffee treat. And then, we went to Bri's house for a fire and s'mores and hanging out together. It was a really enjoyable night with lots of good conversation and laughter!
Day 168. Nothing memorable happened on this day, so I will use this space to talk about a couple different general things...
The kids are doing the Super Readers summer reading program through the Milwaukee Library. They're doing a really good job reading every day! Soon, we need to get back in there so they can claim their prizes!
Justin started taking Brazilian jiu jitsu recently, and he loves it! He usually goes three times a week. I'm so glad that he's found a physical activity that he enjoys!
