Last Weekend
We had a full and fun weekend last Friday, Saturday, Sunday!
Day 134. I'm thankful for a double date night with David and Angie!
Around 5pm, they came over to our house with their four kids. Our babysitter, Skyler, and her mom (my friend, Sarah) watched all 8 kids while we went out to dinner and to a school fundraiser. We went to Odd Duck, one of our favorite tapas restaurants in Milwaukee. Small plates restaurants are great, because you get to try lots of different dishes and share them. The bacon wrapped gouda stuffed dates are SO delicious! I highly recommend.
After dinner, we went to the Humboldt Park Beer Garden for a wine and beer tasting event. They also had a silent auction. One of the "items" we tried to win in the auction was a play date with Miss Clark, Deuce's teacher. It was also nice to be able to meet some other parents from the school. I had a few samples of wine and beer. My favorite was a Samuel Smith Organic Chocolate Beer.
Then we grabbed some treats from Leon's and headed home to hang out for a short while.
Day 135. I am thankful for a full and fun Saturday.
Saturday was an especially busy day. Justin took Josie to her swim lesson at 10, and I brought the other three kids to church for an outreach. There were 6 or 7 of us who participated. First we talked, sang a couple songs, prayed, and then went out into the neighborhood, picking up trash and talking to people. (David stayed back with the kids.) The neighborhood that church is located (and as it turns out, our house is in the southwest corner) is called Muskego Way. It's very heavily populated (like 12,000 people in half a square mile) with tons of ethnic diversity. It's pretty rough in some parts, especially as you go farther east.
Anyway, I prayed for boldness before we went out, and God answered my prayer. I didn't feel nervous or uncomfortable at any point during our outreach. We knocked on doors, asking people if we could have permission to pick up trash in their yards. Then, if they were receptive, we would talk more. I even got to use some of my limited Spanish skills talking to a couple of the ladies who answered the doors. The only bad thing is that it was cold! We actually saw a little snow! Wisconsin is unreal sometimes.
After the outreach, we went back to church and then enjoyed some pizza. Then, we all pitched in to help clean up the church. Many hands definitely made light work. We ended up leaving shortly after 2. Josie had a birthday party to get to at 2:50!
Once I got the girls down for their naps (actually I don't remember if Margo napped that day or not, and it doesn't really matter), I left with Josie to stop at Board Game Barrister for a birthday gift for Kennedy (Mo's daughter). She'd asked for Mancala after enjoying playing it with Deuce here. The birthday party was at Rollaero Rollerskating Rink. I couldn't tell you the last time I'd put on roller skates. Turns out that I'm still pretty good! Josie, on the other hand... It was quite a workout trying to keep her up! We went around, slowly and clumsily together. She would occasionally tell me she wanted to do it alone, so I'd go around by myself and come back to help her. Not gonna lie, it was pretty fun! We also had cake and sang happy birthday to Kennedy. Plus, I chatted with some of my friends who were there. We left around 4:30, because I needed to get home to get ready for the next part of our day.
Dinner with friends! First I had to clean up the house and myself. I was a hot, sweaty mess from walking around and picking up trash, cleaning the church, rollerskating, and then speed cleaning the house! Our guests: David and Angie (seriously can't get enough of them haha) and their kids and Mike and Danielle, another couple from church. We fed the kiddos first, and then sent them off to play. The grownups enjoyed some delicious and authentic barbacoa from a local restaurant, along with other Mexican fixings. Before dinner, the guys hung out in the basement, chatting, while I (and Angie) gave Danielle a tour of the house. We of course had good conversation during the meal, and then enjoyed some yummy cupcakes after that.
By the time dinner was finished, I was feeling pretty worn out. We all migrated to the living room where I snuggled up with Justin and a blanket. David mostly entertained us by playing the piano and singing. We also talked and laughed. It wasn't a late night, which was probably good. It had been a long and really good day!
Day 136. I'm thankful for a sweet (smaller) baby to hold.
Okay, Sunday was a pretty uneventful day. After the busyness of Friday and Saturday, I think it was necessary. Really the only thing that stands out about the day is that Justin and I took turns holding baby Oliver. He's about 7 months old and definitely smaller than any of my kids were at that age. He really seems to like Justin, which is cute.
