Yay for Games... and Family!

It's a good thing I love games, because that's what we tend to do when my dad's family gets together. And to clarify, we usually don't play games with established rules. By that I mean that the rules tend to be fluid and made up.

For example, this evening we played a game of croquet. I've been playing croquet with my family for as long as I can remember. The course never looks anything like a regulation croquet course. The wickets are always strategically placed near natural hazards, such as tree roots or sticks. If you hit another ball you have the option to send that ball flying. If you get through all the wickets first, you become "poison" and get to chase down the other players' balls to "kill" them. Today we learned that croquet balls float, because two accidentally went in the water. In the past, croquet balls have been broken due to the aggressive nature of our version.

A family favorite card game is Double Crank Hearts. Don't ask me why it's called "Double Crank." I'm sure my cousin Mike (actually, he's my dad's cousin) could explain it. But anyway, if you know how to play the game Hearts, just imagine you have eight or more players and two decks of cards. So, instead of 52 cards, you have 104. If two of the same cards get played they cancel each other out. That is, unless two Queens of Spades get thrown out. Then they double. It can be a very vicious game, and I love it!

We also transformed the simple board game of Sorry! into a crazy and ruthless game when you double up the number of players (8 instead of 4) on the board! And you thought Monopoly took a long time. ;0)

The plain old versions of croquet, Hearts and Sorry! just don't cut it for me after playing the amped up versions for so many years.

Enough talk about games. It was another great day! The kids had fun playing with their cousins, eating junk food and watch too much TV while Justin and I enjoyed visiting with my relatives, eating junk food, and of course, playing games! Hopefully the rain holds off tomorrow so we can spend the day outside!

I love my crazy game playing family!
