Seven More Grateful Days

I have to be careful with these longer breaks between blog posts or I won't remember what I'm thankful for!

Here's everything I was/am grateful for this week:

Day 60. A new, beautiful iPhone case. And great parent-teacher conferences.

Justin surprised me with a new iPhone case. I know it's not that big of a deal, but I really like it.

Also, we had parent-teacher conferences with Josie and Deuce's teachers. Both kids are doing awesome. They're well-behaved, and they're both making friends. Their reading and math skills are excellent and above average, respectively. I'm really proud of them! (So is Justin, of course.) And we are really happy with Milwaukee Parkside School for the Arts!

Day 61. Impromptu date night!

Normally on Tuesdays Justin and I drop the kids off at a babysitter's and go to Spanish class. Well, we did the first part of that routine, but then I realized that I had forgotten to bring the book we need for class. Justin and I briefly discussed our options (go without the book and not be able to participate very well, go get the book and be really late for class, or skip class), and decided that we should just go to Starbucks for a little date instead. It was quite lovely, just sitting there and chatting with my husband while drinking my chai tea. When we picked up the kids, I made sure to tell Nicole, the babysitter, that we went on a date instead. She got paid either way, so I'm pretty sure she didn't care.

Day 62. Reading to Deuce's class.

March 2 was Dr. Seuss's birthday, and the kids' school had a school wide reading event. Each class had a volunteer come in and read a book to the class and then the kids did an activity. Crafts for the younger ones and writing activities for the older ones. I read "One Fish Two Fish" to the kids in Deuce's class (although, he goes by Justin at school), and then they made fish bowls out of paper plates and colored paper for the fish. Here's Deuce's:

The kids loved having Margo and Piper there too. They both got lots of hugs before we left!

Day 63. Dinner with new friends.

On Thursday we had my friend Jess, her boyfriend Josh, and her three kids, Liam, Joey and Emily over for dinner. The kids are in 3rd, 1st and k5 respectively. When they were here, Deuce played with the boys and Emily played with the girls. Jess had a meeting at 7, so it was a short visit for her, but Josh and the kids stayed a bit later. It was both my and Justin's first time meeting him, but conversation flowed pretty readily. Justin and Josh found plenty to talk about. Also, I made a delicious pan of lasagna that everyone enjoyed, even the kids. I hope our families will get together again soon.

Day 64. Another dinner with more new friends!

We had another family over for dinner on Friday for gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches and potato soup. This time we had David and Angie Price, the Christian couple that I'd met recently at school, and their children over. They also have a 3rd grader (Owen), a 1st grader (Daniella), a 4 year old (Savannah) and a 4 month old baby named Oliver. They got here around 5:30, and stayed until after 9, so it was a nice long visit. We really enjoyed their company, and I know all the kids had fun playing together!

Day 65. More friends and more food!

Friday afternoon I made a bundt cake pan of zucchini bread for Saturday's breakfast. It was so yummy, just like when Mom makes it. The kids had swim lessons, and this time the whole family went. We'd talked about going out for lunch with the Thunderclouds, but decided to get some ham and rolls from Grebe's and have their family come to our house. More playing, and more sitting around and chatting. It's so nice to be able to open up our home as often as we do for friends and family.

Saturday evening, Joey came over with two of his sons, Josiah and Micah, to play with the kids, while he, Justin and I hung out down in the basement. He ended up taking the boys home shortly after 8, and then came back a while later to watch the UFC fights with Justin.

Day 66. Josie's Happy Journal.

Josie has a little "assignment" for Daisies to keep a happy journal for seven days. She has to write down seven things that made her happy each day, so it's been fun trying to learn what happened each day that made her smile or laugh. She's not exactly an open book, so it's been a pleasure learning a little bit more about her days through this journal. We'd gotten a couple days behind, so we caught up today. Tomorrow is the last day, but I might see if I can convince her to keep going. I think it's good for her (and me) to reflect.

Otherwise, today was relatively lazy, as Sundays often are.
